ICEBRIDGE TO POWER IN-SUITE AND IN-SEAT CHILLED MINI-BARS ON ETIHAD AIRWAYS’ NEW A380 AND B787 FLEETS

Helsinki, Finland – May 14, 2014 – ICEBRIDGE Ltd, the global market leader in onboard cooling solutions without electricity, will supply innovative chilled mini-bars for Etihad Airways’ forthcoming Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 aircraft.

Designed keeping the limited space and weight constraints of aircraft environments in mind, the units have been produced using highly durable and super-insulative materials that allow contents to be chilled between 5-9°C for up to 17 hours.

The development is part of the ground-breaking new interior, product and service offerings unveiled by Etihad Airways this month for its A380 and B787 aircraft, which are scheduled for delivery later this year.

The chilled mini-bars will be available in the airline’s A380 First Apartments and The Residence by Etihad™, a unique three-room suite offering new heights of luxury in the sky. In addition, the units will be built into the arm-rests of seats in the B787 First Suites.

“Our partnership with Etihad Airways goes back to 2012 and we are thrilled to be part of the airline’s new First Apartments and Suites, as well as The Residence,” says Jarmo Aurekoski, Founder and Chairman of ICEBRIDGE. “The development of a solution to cool the in-suite and in-seat mini-bars required some innovative thinking by Etihad Airways and ICEBRIDGE, but the end result is truly a first for the global airline industry.”

Whilst saving airlines millions of Euros, ICEBRIDGE’s trolley and galley concepts have been enhancing the passenger experience since 2011. After initial success by ICEBRIDGE, mainly in European skies, this young and innovative company soon started spreading its wings across the globe. Using the very latest in cooling technology, ICEBRIDGE strives to be always a step ahead of the airline industry ‘standard’.

“The new product and service offering on our Airbus A380s and Boeing B787s are major milestones for Etihad Airways and the global aviation industry as a whole, marking the dawn of an exciting new era in sophisticated, luxurious air travel,” says Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer. “Our latest development follows a five-year research, design and implementation process, where a range of innovative concepts and features, such as the chilled mini-bars, were developed to create a product that is far superior to anything available in the market today.”
